I saw that page, but assumed that you had found one with more detail
about the medalion itself.

Somewhere I do have a scan of the SBBNF paperwork that came with a
boat with your kind of plaque and from what I recall it did suggest
that the certificate number referred to a "type approval" rather than
authenicating an individual boat was built to the type standard. i.e.
it certifies a "A SeaHawk will meet certain standards" not "This boat
is a true SeaHawk".
This seems to be the case as some boats appear to have the same
certificate number However, it is interesting that there seem to be
more certificate numbers than I would expect.
