I have a 1973 (ish) boat (No. 206) with a retro fitted furling jib from Holt Allen and early 1990s replacement sails from Jeckells.
It's in North Norfolk and up to now had been mostly used as a motorboat. So far so good, but I'm trying to rig it to sail again and the written instructions whilst helpful are difficult to visualise. My problem is the boom end. This is what I have at the moment: ![]() To be honest I'm not sure what I'm looking at! I'm also missing the kicking strap. Does anyone have pictures of a correctly rigged Seahawk? Thanks! Simon |

Hi Simon,
Looking at the image of your boat, it could be that you're missing a couple of the eyes that should be on your transom in order to fit the mainsheet as originally specified by Reedcraft. In the picture below note how the the mainsheet is initially secured to an eye on the transom near my registration number. It rises to a double block on the aft end of the boom, returns to a single block secured to an eye on the centre of the transom, up again to the boom where it passes round the second roller in the double block then down again to the starboard side of the transom where there is another single block secured to an eye near my motor mount. ![]() On my boat you can also see bolted to the cockpit seat a black grooved cleat into which the sheet is pushed (Some would frown at the idea of securing the mainsheet!). From there you can see it loops loosely and is held by my hand on the tiller. I fitted that cleat because my father's SeaHawk bought new from Reedcraft had one fitted. He was a non-sailor and would not have specified it as an extra. He only bought the boat to encourage his children to visit! But this is all a repeat of what is already on the site at: https://seahawk17.org.uk/boat-description-rigging.php#mainsheet Hope that helps!

It seems I have brain fade. (My excuse: I sold my SeaHawk in 2018!) I've been searching for images of kicking straps and came across this:
![]() I must have posted it somewhere on the forum before, but it shows that Points 1 & 3 are not on the transom as I suggested above.

And here's a set of images that show my kicking strap. Again, All except the first has probably appeared on the forum before:
![]() ![]() ![]() These all come from the days after I had my tabernacle fitted. Originally, the shackle that attached the foot of the strap to the tabernacle was fitted to the bolt that held the mast foot in place.
