Years ago I had a Lysander, designed for the home build market my example had many ‘cost effective adaptations’ the mast heal was a block of wood (although neatly finished) in a aluminium mast. This could be an option. The boat was built many years before I had it so it may have been common practice to have wooden parts on metal spars?
