Re: outboard engine

I have a Tohatsu 3.5hp 2 stroke on the Skylark and that pushes me along nicely against the current of the Orwell if necessary

As you know the original brochures talked of a 4hp engine. However, Reedcraft sold a SeaHawk to my father with a 3.5hp Yamaha 2 Stroke, and he certainly would have specified "Whatever engine you think most appropriate".

I can confirm that there are many on the Broads using 2.5hp engines and from what I've seen these will push a SeaHawk along at hull speed in moderate conditions without any trouble (Don't know how they'd fair against a full gale!).

hi Jack,

i use a suzuki 6hp two stroke for coastal work, probably a bit big really - i used to use it on a 23' hunter sonata...so it was the only one i had!

so i can run it on 1/4 to 1/2 throttle most of the time, which makes it economical and quieter.
however, if the wind and tide get up, there's plenty in reserve.
